High Anxiety (1977) - Mel Brooks
High Anxiety (1977)
Dr. Richard Thorndyke arrives as new administrator of the Psychoneurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous to discover some suspicious goings-on. When hes framed for murder, Dr Thorndyke must confront his own psychiatric condition, high anxiety, in order to clear his name.
A homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock; contains many parodies of famous Hitchcock scenes from The Birds, Psycho, and Vertigo. After spoofing the Old Hollywood Monster Movie Genre, making sure no one would ever take a western seriously again, and paying tribute to the Silent Age of Movies, Mel moved on to parody arguably the best director of all time, Alfred Hitchcock. When High Anxiety hit theaters in 1977 the film did well at the box office, but not as good as Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles. Today Its become one of Mels undiscovered gems, and its hard for me to see why this film didn't go down in cinema history with the rest of Mels earlier works.
